women are mothers, caretakers, game changers, industry leaders and experts in so many different fields.


How they manage to juggle all of these responsibilities, switch roles from “mom” to “boss-lady” effortlessly and still slay, beats the human mind. Some say women have super powers which explains why and how they are able to create a balance between  the different aspects of family life and work. Who knows!!

 

It is no longer news that women are setting the pace in the world of fashion, media, arts and technology.

In the spirit of women’s day we want to shine the spot light and celebrate some women who inspire us in the area of Arts and technology!

Font Bundles was started by 3 friends (Alex France, Geoff Ballington and Andy Croft) on a shoestring budget with a range of skills and experience.

The company is still 100% owned by the co-founders, and self funded. The company now boasts 30 full time employees and over 4000 designers selling their products on the craft and design marketplace, Design Bundles and the font marketplace, Font Bundles.

Font Bundles Ltd is a diverse and modern company who champion diversity and flexible working. The company started and scaled without any central office by making use of the team working application Slack.


Although the company is registered in the UK, all 30 of the company’s employees work remotely and are based in over 10 different countries around the world, including its co-founders who meet up a few times a year to brainstorm and discuss growth plans.

In the last financial year, the company grossed over $10,000,000 USD in revenue, showing no signs of slowing down with the launch of several other brands and products.


Manal Al Sharif
Founder, Women2Hack Academy Women's day
At the start of the Arab Spring, Manal al-Sharif threw the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia into disarray when she posted a video of herself driving on social media. She was thrown in jail for nine days but kicked off a movement that resulted in the conservative country reversing its laws to allow women to drive earlier this year. The computer scientist began her journey of breaking social norms when she became the only woman working as an IT security specialist at state-owned oil producer, Saudi Aramco. Al-Sharif is also the founder of the Women2Hack Academy, a program that aims to foster tech talent in Saudi Arabia, with a focus on information security.

Swedish engineering physicist Elina Berglund completed her PhD at CERN where she was searching for the elusive Higgs boson particle.

After its discovery in 2012, Berglund turned her attention to family life and sought to find an alternative to the contraceptive pill.

Berglund created an algorithm to identify the fertile window in a woman’s cycle and co founded fertility tracking app Natural Cycles in 2013.

Natural Cycles is now used by more than 900,000 people in more than 200 countries.

It has raised $37.5 million to date



Joy Buolamwini
Founder, Algorithmic Justice League March 8
Joy Buolamwini is a computer scientist and digital activist based at the MIT Media Lab. As founder of the Algorithmic Justice League, she identifies bias in artificial intelligence and develops practices for accountability. Buolamwini’s TED Talk on algorithmic bias has been viewed over one million times. Her New York Times op-ed on the dangers of facial analysis technology galvanized lawmakers to investigate the risks posed by this technology. She received a $50,000 grant as the Grand Prize winner of a national contest inspired by the critically acclaimed film Hidden Figures.
