Talk to a counselor: When dealing with a traumatic experience, depression, or anxiety, it’s always advisable to seek the help of a professional – it could be a counselor or a therapist. These mental health professionals are equipped with the skills and knowledge to help you find ways to get past your traumatic experiences and also teach you how to cope with it, if need be.

If you are wondering about how you can easily get in touch with a professional counselor or therapist, This isn’t so hard or complicated, there are tons of amazing websites online where you can request an appointment with a therapist.

She helps the client navigate through their past to help with a better understanding toward how to achieve goals for a happier healthier life.

Eat healthy: it’s amazing how effective a healthy diet can be when it comes to helping you recover from a negative experience, this is because some foods improve the state of your mental health, some of these foods include fresh fruits, vegetables, protein-rich legumes, fatty fish and Omega 3 fatty acids. Eating right is a great way to improve your mental health. A healthy diet improves sanity and eradicates depression and anxiety.

Give yourself time: every form of recovery takes time, and this is no different when it come to recovering from traumatic experiences, accept that it would definitely take a while before things get back to normal, accept that recovery happens gradually and with this consciousness it would be easier to get past it. Don’t stay in denial all through the time, accept what has happened and know that the feeling will not last forever. With time it will fade and you will be able to get on with your life.

Stay active: one of the best ways to speed up recovery from a bad experience, whether it’s a heartbreak or a physical assault, is to spend your time doing nice things, do things that you love. There are so many fun activities that make you happy, don’t hesitate to get involved in these activities, they sure would go a long way in helping you get your life back on track. Take a vacation, go for walks, spend time with friends and family, if you love sports you could get involved in some sporting activities like swimming, running etc. Whatever your preferences are just ensure that you stay active daily, this will help you stay positive.

Surround yourself with friends and family: having the right people around you when dealing with the trauma of an event is very important. Try not to shut out your loved ones, share your feelings with them and allow them help you heal. Spend time together with your family and friends, hang out together, listen to their jokes, have them listen to you, give them the opportunity to talk you through the bitter experience, this  helps you cope with the negative experience and speed up recovery.

Love this! People never think that eating healthy and staying active can help them through dark times, but it totally can. Taking care of yourself like that not only makes you feel physically better, but it helps with your mental state too, in my opinion!

lovely tips. it’s true, you must give yourself time, you don’t know how much you may need and that’s okay. everyone is different. having someone to talk with is very helpful, even if you can’t afford a counselor I think it’s still important to find someone you trust to speak with.

Being a psychological counselor I always suggest 3 things Limit your media exposure to the traumatic event. Don’t watch the news or check social media just before bed, and refrain from repeatedly viewing disturbing footage.
Try to avoid distressing images and video clips. If you want to stay up-to-date on events, read the newspaper rather than watching television or viewing video clips of the event.
If coverage makes you feel overwhelmed, take a complete break from the news. Avoid TV and online news and stop checking social media for a few days or weeks, until your traumatic stress symptoms ease up and you’re able to move on.

Your ideas are great as well.

I agree with what you have just said by 100%. No doubt, in traumatic cases, it’s always best to talk to a counselor. It’s always advisable to seek the help of a professional. Then eating healthy, staying active, giving yourself some time follows after. Then of course, your friends, your family – they are your support system so you have to keep them closer. Thanks for sharing by the way!
